The White House has rescinded President Donald Trump’s nomination of Dr. Janette Nesheiwat for United States Surgeon General. A replacement nominee has already been named by the president.

Nesheiwat’s confirmation hearing was scheduled for Thursday before the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee, but early Wednesday, Sen. Bernie Sanders’ office, the committee’s leading Democrat, announced that her candidacy had been withdrawn.

Trump announced that he intends to nominate Dr. Casey Means as Surgeon General, citing her “MAHA,” or Make America Healthy Again, qualifications. Means, an entrepreneur and health advocate, is associated with Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and was preferred by Kennedy’s friends over Nesheiwat.
