THE SIGNAL
President Donald Trump’s most recent nominee, who was once a Republican member of the upper chamber, was confirmed by more than a dozen Democratic senators voting alongside Republicans on Monday.
Given the importance of trade and national security concerns with the second-largest economy in the world, the Senate approved Georgian David Perdue to serve as Trump’s ambassador to China. Cloture, which takes 60 votes, was approved 64–27.
Trump supported Perdue in his unsuccessful 2022 bid to unseat incumbent Governor Brian Kemp ®.
According to a recent survey, the Democratic Party is still losing support among young people, one of its most important voter groups.
