Trump Declares Today Is Deadline Day — ‘Whole Civilization Will Die Tonight’
President Donald Trump issued a strong warning to the Iranian regime Tuesday, stating that “the entire country can be taken out in one night” if Tehran fails to meet his 8 p.m. Eastern Time deadline to reach a deal and reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
Speaking at a White House news conference, President Trump made clear the deadline would not be extended again. He outlined a decisive four-hour military response that would leave Iran without functional bridges or power plants if the regime continues its aggression and refusal to negotiate responsibly.
“We have a plan where every bridge in Iran will be decimated by 12 o’clock tomorrow night, where every power plant in Iran will be out of business, burning, exploding and never to be used again,” Trump said. “I mean complete demolition by 12 o’clock, and it will happen over a period of four hours if we wanted to.”
Trump noted that Iran had made “a significant proposal,” but emphasized it was “not good enough.” He stressed that the United States remains open to negotiations with what he called “an active, willing participant on the other side,” while insisting that free passage through the Strait of Hormuz—a critical global energy chokepoint—is a non-negotiable priority.
The president has given Iran every opportunity to avoid escalation, but the regime’s continued sponsorship of terrorism, threats to its neighbors, and attempts to control international waterways have left the United States with few options other than strength and resolve. Trump warned: “It’s not going to be moved again. I gave them a chance, and I hope they take the chance. If they don’t, it’s trouble.”
Iran responded with predictable defiance. Iranian officials, including advisers to Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and senior figure Saeed Jalili, issued mocking and threatening statements, claiming they would send America’s allies “back to the Stone Age” or dismissing Trump’s warnings outright. Other regime spokesmen labeled the president’s words “rude” and “baseless,” while promising a “decisive” response to any strikes on infrastructure.
Despite the tough talk from Tehran, diplomatic efforts continue under President Trump’s direction. Negotiations are being led by Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, with Vice President J.D. Vance on standby should backchannel talks advance. Trump made clear that any ceasefire would be set by him alone, rejecting temporary pauses in favor of a lasting resolution that ends Iran’s terrorist activities and restores stability to the region.
Military preparations are advancing as a prudent backup to diplomacy. Israel has updated target lists focused on Iranian energy and infrastructure tied to the regime’s military capabilities, while Pentagon planners are ensuring the commander in chief has maximum options to protect American interests and global security.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt noted that the Pentagon’s job is to provide the president with full flexibility. Trump himself expressed confidence, stating he is “not worried about it.”
As the deadline approaches, President Trump is demonstrating the strong, decisive leadership needed to confront a dangerous regime that has long destabilized the Middle East through terrorism and nuclear ambitions. The goal remains clear: force Iran to abandon its path of aggression, reopen the Strait of Hormuz, and prevent a terrorist state from ever acquiring nuclear weapons—protecting innocent lives and preserving peace through American strength.
