A replica of KITT from ‘Knight Rider’ got a traffic ticket in another state despite being in a museum

Published

You’d think that one way to make sure you never get a traffic ticket in the mail is to stick your car in a museum and just not let it taste the sweet freedom of the open road.

Well, you’re wrong.

It turns out that it doesn’t even work if the car in question is a replica of KITT, the car from the David Hasselhoff talking car classic, “Knight Rider.”

The Volo Museum is a car museum outside of Chicago, and one of the cars on display is a replica of KITT, the Pontiac Firebird Trans-Am voiced by the great William Daniels (who went on to play Mr. Feeney from “Boy Meets World”).

It’s a cool piece for any car collection, but you can understand why the museum was confused when it got a ticket in the mail claiming that KITT had gotten caught going 36 mph in a 25 mph zone in Brooklyn.

The car had never been out of the museum, let alone left the state, but sure enough, according to the Associated Press, the ticket came with a photo showing a black Trans-Am with a California plate that read “KNIGHT” getting caught on a traffic cam.

That, of course, is the same plate seen on the show, and the same one on the Volo Museum’s replica.

So, how did a real ticket wind up getting sent to a museum that owns a replica of the car from “Knight Rider?”

Well, no one seems to know. New York City hasn’t explained, and the museum is as confused as the rest of us.

“The fact that we’re legally tied to a movie prop is interesting,” Volo Museum marketing director Jim Wojdyla said. “We’re known for having our Hollywood cars from TV and movies, but I have no idea how we got registered from a ticket in New York to the plates in California to the Volo Museum in Illinois. We’re still trying to figure it out.”

Oddly enough, the same Trans-Am has been tied to five more unpaid tickets in New York City.

The museum has requested a hearing to fight the ticket, and I get the sense they will probably win.

Horse dies after crossing the finish line in his first career race in tragic start to Preakness weekend

Published

on

There’s always a lot of excitement about the Preakness Stakes — the second leg of the Triple Crown — but this year’s weekend is off to a tragic start.

Laurel Park is hosting this year’s Preakness as Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore undergoes renovations, and on Friday, a horse collapsed and died after crossing the finish line in its first career race.

Hit Zero, trained by Brittany Russell, came into the race as the favorite. However, he finished last in the race, which was won by another one of Russell’s horses, Bold Fact — and upon crossing the finish line, Hit Zero reportedly began coughing, dropped to his knees, then put his head down and died.

“After pulling up and finishing the race, the horse was unsaddled, began walking back to the barn, and collapsed and ended up suffering catastrophic sudden death,” Chief Veterinary Officer for 1/ST Racing Dr. Dionne Benson told WBAL.

Dr. Benson said that an incident like this is often a sign of a heart condition, but they will not know for sure what happened until a necropsy is performed.

This is obviously the last thing anyone wants to hear when it comes to horse racing, and it continues to be a major criticism of the sport.

However, Dr. Benson insisted that fatalities are still rare and there is a procedure in place to determine what happened and prevent future incidents.

“Fatalities, first off, are very rare in horse racing overall. It’s less than 1% of 1% of horseracing. Realistically, it’s something that when a horse dies of a sudden death, every horse that dies in Maryland on a race track goes for a necropsy or post-mortem, and then, there is a meeting that follows that so we can work with the trainer to find out if there was anything abnormal about the horse, and, really, the goal is preventing any future fatalities,” Benson said.

“But, often, it’s very difficult, especially with sudden death, to figure out what the cause is because, for example, if it’s an electrical abnormality, there’s no evidence of that in the heart after death.”

The Preakness Stakes is set to take place on Saturday.

White House gets an unexpected buzz as thousands of bees swarm the executive mansion’s North Lawn

Published

The White House got an unexpected buzz Friday when thousands of bees swarmed the North Lawn weeks after first lady Melania Trump added new bee colonies to the executive mansion grounds.

Numerous black dots, later identified as a swarm of bees, were spotted on the White House near the press corps’ Pebble Beach media area on the North Lawn.

About 20 minutes later, the bees swarmed into a hive on a tree on the North Lawn of the White House.

It is unclear what led to the swarm, though just weeks ago the first lady announced the addition of two new bee colonies to the property’s existing two.

She also unveiled a new replica White House beehive on the South Lawn.

It is unclear if the bees confused the historic mansion with their new, similarly styled home.

The White House did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.

The hive took center stage during Britain’s King Charles III and Queen Camilla’s state visit when the royal couple, both longtime supporters of beekeeping, toured the newly expanded hive with the Trumps on the South Lawn.

White House honey was also served in dishes at the state dinner.

Fox News Digital previously reported the colony expansion is expected to boost annual honey production by an estimated 30 pounds, allowing for even greater use in preparing White House culinary dishes, serving as official gifts from the president and the first lady and supporting charitable donations of healthy foods to local food kitchens.

The colony can grow to roughly 70,000 bees in peak summer months, producing up to 225 pounds of honey annually.

Funded through the Trust for the National Mall, the new White House hive supports the existing colonies in pollinating the nearby White House Kitchen Garden, Flower Cutting Garden and vegetation on the National Mall.

The White House beekeeping program started in 2009 after a White House carpenter, Charlie Brandt, started keeping bees on the complex as a hobby a few years prior.

The Office of the First Lady said the hobby has since become “a lasting tradition.”

FOX Business’ White House correspondent Edward Lawrence contributed to this report.
