Dem Senator warns of NFL Draft security risks amid Iran war in letter to DHS

Sen. John Fetterman, D-Pa., penned a letter to the Department of Homeland Security requesting special security accommodations for the upcoming NFL Draft in Pittsburgh.

Fetterman cited concerns amid the ongoing Iran War for his desire for more security.

“I urge the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to elevate the Special Event Assessment Rating (SEAR) for the National Football League’s 2026 Draft in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to ensure the safety of participants and fans at the event. The NFL Draft is one of the most iconic sporting events held each year,” the letter began.

“This is the first time since 1948 that the NFL will host the Draft in Pittsburgh. It is expected to draw well over 700,000 fans to open-air events in Point State Park and Acrisure Stadium, and more than 50 million viewers are expected to tune in to watch the Draft on television or online. Previously, DHS designated the Draft a Level 3 SEAR event, but I urge DHS to elevate it to a Level 2 SEAR event given the changing threat environment in the wake of the war in Iran.

“A Level 2 designation would provide greater coordination and deployment of federal, state, and local law enforcement, as well as counter-drone support, K9 units, and intelligence analysis and sharing. Increasing the SEAR designation for the Draft will help ensure that additional resources are deployed to keep participants and fans secure and able to enjoy the Draft without fear.”

TRUMP SAYS IRAN’S WORLD CUP PARTICIPATION MAY NOT BE ‘APPROPRIATE,’ WHILE ADDING MEN’S TEAM IS STILL ‘WELCOME’

The draft is set to take place in Pittsburgh from April 23–25.

President Donald Trump declared Iran is “essentially really no longer a threat” after a 32-day U.S. military campaign, during a primetime address Wednesday.

“I can say tonight that we are on track to complete all of America’s military objectives shortly. Very shortly, we are going to hit them extremely hard over the next two to three weeks,” Trump said. “We’re going to bring them back to the Stone Ages where they belong. In the meantime, discussions are ongoing.”

“We are in this military operation … for 32 days,” he added. “And the country has been eviscerated and essentially is really no longer a threat.”

The mission known as Operation Epic Fury began just more than one month ago, on Feb. 28.

Since then, U.S. forces have struck more than 12,000 targets inside Iran and damaged or destroyed 155 naval ships, according to the Central Command. Thirteen U.S. service members have died in the operations, and 350 have been injured.

Trump Sends Haters Into Full Meltdown With Who He Brought To NBA Game

President Donald Trump made a high-profile appearance Monday night at Madison Square Garden as the New York Knicks hosted Game 3 of the NBA Finals, bringing national attention to an already historic evening for New York City.

The Knicks entered the game with a commanding 2-0 series lead over the San Antonio Spurs and stood just two victories away from capturing their first NBA championship in decades. The matchup marked the first NBA Finals game played at Madison Square Garden since 1999, creating enormous excitement throughout the city.

Security around the arena was significantly heightened as President Trump attended the game alongside members of his administration, close advisers, and longtime allies. The increased security presence came just one day after six people were injured during a stabbing incident at nearby Penn Station, located directly beneath Madison Square Garden.

The president arrived to a packed arena and watched the game from a private suite alongside a number of prominent administration officials and advisers.

Among those reportedly attending with the president were:

Sec. Sean Duffy

Sec. Doug Burgum

Administrator Lee Zeldin

Deputy COS Dan Scavino

Jared Kushner

Envoy Steve Witkoff

Walt Nauta

Boris Epshteyn

Natalie Harp

The appearance highlighted Trump’s continued visibility on the national stage while also underscoring his deep connection to New York City, where he built his business career long before entering politics.

Meanwhile, as the president attended one of the biggest sporting events of the year, he continued drawing attention to another issue that has become a central focus of his administration: election integrity.

Trump has repeatedly criticized California’s election system as state officials continue counting ballots from last week’s primary elections. The prolonged counting process has reignited debate over election administration and voter confidence in the nation’s most populous state.

The controversy intensified after U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli disclosed that the Department of Justice has spent more than a year attempting to review California’s voter registration records.

“For over a year, the Department of Justice has been trying to audit California’s voter rolls,” Essayli said.

“Federal law gives the Attorney General the authority to review state voter files and confirm that only eligible U.S. citizens are voting in federal elections,” he added.

The dispute comes as California election officials continue processing large numbers of ballots days after polls closed. Unlike many states that report nearly complete election results within hours, California’s system routinely requires days or even weeks to finalize outcomes.

The lengthy process has fueled concerns among many voters who question why election results remain unresolved long after Election Day.

Essayli also highlighted several aspects of California’s voter registration policies that have attracted attention from federal officials.

Among the forms of identification accepted for certain voter registration purposes are gym membership cards, employer identification cards, credit and debit cards, prescription drug labels, and insurance cards.

Critics argue that such policies deserve closer scrutiny, while supporters maintain that safeguards are already in place to protect election integrity.

The issue has also renewed discussion surrounding the SAVE America Act, legislation supported by many Republicans that would establish nationwide proof-of-citizenship requirements for federal voter registration.

California officials continue to defend the state’s election system and insist that existing safeguards adequately protect the voting process. They also maintain that there is no evidence that widespread non-citizen voting has affected election outcomes.

Nevertheless, the Justice Department’s ongoing efforts suggest that federal scrutiny of California’s election practices is likely to continue in the months ahead.

As President Trump watched the Knicks pursue a championship before a national audience, the broader debate over election security, voter roll maintenance, and ballot-counting procedures remained front and center in American politics.

For the administration, both issues reflect themes that have become central to Trump’s presidency: public safety, government accountability, and restoring confidence in institutions that many Americans believe deserve greater transparency.

Trump’s Return to NYC for Historic NBA Finals Game Takes Dramatic Turn

The Trump administration is preparing what could become one of the largest immigration enforcement operations in New York City history, as Border Czar Tom Homan announced that a significant increase in ICE activity is on the horizon for the nation’s largest city.

The announcement comes as President Donald Trump continues delivering on one of the central promises of his successful 2024 campaign: restoring immigration enforcement and reversing years of policies that critics argue weakened border security and undermined the rule of law.

Speaking with Fox News on Monday, Homan revealed that federal officials have finalized plans for a major operation targeting illegal immigration in New York City.

“You’re going to see more ICE than you’ve ever seen in New York City.”

Homan stopped short of providing specific details but made clear that preparations are already underway.

“It’s coming,” Homan told Fox News. “I just reviewed an operational plan. I’m not going to tell you exactly when it’s going to happen, but it’s coming.”

According to Homan, New York officials were warned that increased federal enforcement would likely become necessary after state leaders continued adopting policies that limit cooperation between local authorities and federal immigration agencies.

The announcement follows Governor Kathy Hochul’s approval of legislation that prohibits ICE agents from wearing masks during operations and places additional restrictions on cooperation between local law enforcement agencies and federal immigration authorities. The measure also allows individuals to pursue legal action against federal officials under certain circumstances.

Trump administration officials argue that such policies make it harder for ICE agents to safely perform their duties and ultimately force federal authorities to conduct more operations directly within communities rather than transferring illegal immigrants already being held in local detention facilities.

Administration officials have repeatedly argued that cooperation between local law enforcement and federal agencies would reduce the need for broader enforcement actions while improving public safety.

The news comes as President Trump returned to his hometown of New York City for Game 3 of the NBA Finals at Madison Square Garden. The visit generated significant attention as security preparations intensified around the arena.

Trump, a lifelong New Yorker, was expected to attend the game from a private executive suite while being protected by an extensive security presence involving both the Secret Service and the New York Police Department.

While some critics complained about increased security measures surrounding the president’s visit, supporters viewed the turnout as another reminder of Trump’s enduring connection to the city where he built his business empire long before entering politics.

Meanwhile, opposition to the administration’s immigration agenda has continued to generate protests throughout parts of the Northeast.

Hundreds of demonstrators have maintained a presence outside Delaney Hall, a large ICE detention facility located in Newark, New Jersey. The protests have occasionally escalated into confrontations with law enforcement officers and federal agents.

Video footage circulating online has shown numerous arrests as authorities attempt to maintain order around the facility.

Despite the criticism, Trump administration officials remain committed to their immigration agenda. They argue that stronger enforcement measures are necessary to restore integrity to the immigration system and ensure federal laws are enforced consistently.

The administration also announced new efforts to review cases involving alleged immigration-related fraud, further signaling its intention to increase scrutiny of immigration programs and eligibility requirements.

For Trump supporters, the planned New York operation represents another step toward fulfilling promises made during the campaign. The president repeatedly pledged to prioritize border security, deport criminal illegal immigrants, and strengthen immigration enforcement nationwide.

With federal officials now preparing a significant expansion of ICE operations in New York City, the administration appears poised to demonstrate that those promises remain at the center of Trump’s second-term agenda.

As Homan’s warning makes clear, federal immigration enforcement efforts are about to become far more visible in one of America’s largest sanctuary jurisdictions—and the administration shows no signs of backing away from its commitment to enforcing the nation’s immigration laws.
