Fast-food shocker: Texas chain beats McDonald’s, Burger King on value

Published

on

A Texas-based fast-food chain is home to the best value burger in America, according to new data from online lender NetCredit.

Whataburger’s classic Whataburger has the biggest patty among 14 major American burger chains and represents the best overall value at $1.66 per ounce of meat, the study revealed.

NetCredit’s methodology calculated the national average price per ounce of single-patty cheeseburgers and medium or regular fries at the nation’s 14 largest burger chains.

The study compares portion sizes, calories and protein, analyzing published nutrition data and using home kitchen scales to weigh patties and fries.

Here are the 14 best value burgers and chains, per the study.

1. Whataburger ($1.66) from Whataburger

2. Cheeseburger ($1.91) from McDonald’s

3. All-American Smash ($1.96) from Smashburger

4. Cheeseburger ($1.99) from Burger King

5. Dave’s Single Cheeseburger ($2.21) from Wendy’s

6. Deluxe Single ($2.22) from Culver’s

7. Cheeseburger ($2.27) from Shake Shack

8. Original Cheeseburger ($2.38) from Dairy Queen

9. Big Cheeseburger ($2.39) from Carl’s Jr.

10. Jr. Jack Cheeseburger ($2.45) from Jack in the Box

11. Sonic Cheeseburger ($2.46) from Sonic

12. Cheeseburger ($2.91) from In-N-Out Burger

13. Cheeseburger ($3.13) from A&W

14. Little Cheeseburger ($3.59) from Five Guys

“Whataburger’s signature sandwich weighs 3.56 ounces and costs $5.92, making it bigger and more expensive than the regular burgers at nearly every U.S. major chain,” NetCredit wrote.

“But at $1.66 per ounce of meat, the Whataburger is the best value major chain burger in the land.”

Josh Cooper, a competitive chef, award-winning barbecue pitmaster and former contestant on “MasterChef,” told Fox News Digital he’s not surprised Whataburger took the crown.

“Whataburger is probably Texas’ No. 1 export,” he joked.

Cooper, who owns Cooper’s Next Level BBQ in Tallahassee, Florida, called Whataburger’s cheeseburger “larger than normal fast-food burgers,” which he partly attributed to its value-based recognition.

Also, “the fact that it doesn’t feel like a fast-food burger — it feels like a burger you might get at a restaurant — I think that’s part of the reason why it won the best value,” Cooper said.

McDonald’s classic cheeseburger came in second to Whataburger in overall value, despite having the thinnest patty, because the price is so low.

Weighing just 1.06 ounces, the McDonald’s cheeseburger checks in at $1.91 per ounce, or about $2.02 per burger, NetCredit said.

MCDONALD’S CEO ROASTED AFTER HIS TINY FIRST BITE OF NEW BIG ARCH BURGER GOES VIRAL

“A cheap, cheap burger makes sense for a lot of folks,” Cooper said.

“But I might argue that you’re really paying for bun instead of burger, and you’re getting a really small piece of meat. At the end of the day, you’re getting mostly carbs and bread.”

He also praised Whataburger for its fresh, “never-frozen” patties.

“I love a McDonald’s burger like the next guy as well,” Cooper said. “But Whataburger, I think, just stands alone when it comes to value.”

Debbie Stroud, president and CEO of Whataburger, told Fox News Digital, “We’re so excited here at Whataburger to see this recognition for value — because to us, we know that value means more than price. It’s about generous portions, quality ingredients and a made-to-order experience that’s worth every bite. That’s what keeps our most loyal customers coming back and invites new guests to discover the difference.”

Fox News Digital also reached out to McDonald’s for comment.

The All-American Smash from Smashburger, which ranks No. 3 overall, has the most protein — 15.7 grams per 100 grams of burger, according to the study.

Burger King and Wendy’s rounded out the top five with their standard single-patty cheeseburgers.

“We’re certainly not eating as much beef as we have in the past,” Cooper said. “We’re eating a lot more chicken these days just because of the costs associated with all that — and I’m sure Americans are making that decision everywhere.”

These types of studies, Cooper said, can better help Americans “make those educated decisions on where you’re going to shop and spend your hard-earned money.”

Golden State Warriors guard Moses Moody left Monday night’s game on a stretcher after he suffered a gruesome leg injury against the Dallas Mavericks.

Moody was all alone on his way to an easy dunk in overtime after stealing the ball from Mavericks rookie Cooper Flagg. He gathered himself and went up for the slam but his knee buckled. He landed hard on the floor.

Warriors head coach Steve Kerr and players from both teams were left in disbelief.

Moody was down for several minutes as medical personnel attended to him. Kerr said after the game that Moody was getting X-rays at the American Airlines Center.

“Just saw his leg buckle. Saw him go down in a heap, in pain,” Kerr told reporters. “We don’t know what it is, but it sure looked bad. Just hoping for the best. What the best-case scenario is, that’s what we’re all hoping for. But it looked bad.”

Moody was playing in his first game since he sprained his right wrist. He led the Warriors with 23 points and three steals before the freak accident.

NBA CHAMP’S IRONMAN STREAK COMES TO AN ABRUPT END DUE TO BIZARRE INJURY

“Mo is such a great human being, great teammate, wonderful guy to coach,” Kerr said. “Puts in the work every day. And was brilliant, by the way. Played so well defensively, changed the game for us with his ball pressure and knocked down big shots. So great to finally have him back. And then for that to happen, you’re just praying that it’s not too serious, but it sure looked serious.”

Warriors guard Brandin Podziemski said the injury reminded him of when Jimmy Butler tore his ACL against the Miami Heat back in January.

“You just hate to see it, especially to the good people in life,” Podziemski said.

The Warriors won the game 137-131. Golden State is likely headed for the play-in tournament in hopes of being one of the eight teams in the Western Conference vying for an NBA title.

Zelenskyy says Ukraine has evidence Russia is aiding Iran with intelligence

Published

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, whose country has been fighting a war against Russia for years, said Kyiv has evidence that Moscow is supplying Iran with intelligence support.

“Report by Chief of the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine Oleh Ivashchenko. First, we have irrefutable evidence that the Russians continue to provide intelligence to the Iranian regime. Russia is using its own signals intelligence and electronic intelligence capabilities, as well as part of the data obtained through cooperation with partners in the Middle East,” part of a post on Zelenskyy’s X account notes.

“There is growing evidence that the Russians continue to provide the Iranian regime with intelligence support,” Zelenskyy noted in part of another post. “By helping the Iranian regime stay afloat and strike more accurately, Russia is effectively prolonging the war. There must be a response.”

UKRAINE PEACE TALKS ON ‘SITUATIONAL PAUSE’ AS MIDDLE EAST CONFLICT INTENSIFIES: KREMLIN

The U.S. and Israel launched a war against Iran over three weeks ago.

U.S. President Donald Trump indicated in a Monday Truth Social post that the U.S. is engaging in talks with Iran.

TRUMP’S IRAN STRATEGY SHOWCASES ‘DOCTRINE OF UNPREDICTABILITY’ AMID STRIKE THREATS AND SUDDEN PAUSE

In the all-caps post on Monday morning, the president said in the last two days the U.S. and Iran had engaged in discussions about resolving the conflict. He said the talks would continue during the week and that he had ordered the War Department to postpone attacks against energy infrastructure in Iran for five days.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry denied that it is engaging in discussions with America, according to state media, indicating there was “no dialogue” with Tehran and D.C., the Wall Street Journal has reported.

“Yes, there are initiatives from regional countries to reduce tensions, and our response to all of them is clear: we are not the party that started this war, and all these requests should be referred to Washington,” the ministry indicated, according to state broadcaster IRIB, the Journal reported.

Ignored ICE detainers ‘put lives at risk,’ DHS says, targeting Newsom, Pritzker, Healey

Published

on

As congressional Democrats continue to vote to defund the Department of Homeland Security, the agency is calling out the “dangerous derangement” of sanctuary state leaders who it says are “putting American lives at risk” by releasing illegal immigrant pedophiles, murderers and gang members.

A spokesperson for DHS slammed Democratic governors Gavin Newsom of California and JB Pritzker of Illinois, both rumored 2028 Democratic presidential candidates, and also Massachusetts Gov. Maura Healey.

“Governor Newsom and his fellow sanctuary politicians—including Pritzker and Healey—are releasing murderers, pedophiles, and drug traffickers back into our neighborhoods and putting American lives at risk,” the spokesperson told Fox News Digital.

The spokesperson cited statistics showing that seven out of 10 of the safest cities in the U.S. cooperate with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. They issued a personal appeal to the Democratic governors, saying, “If we work together, we can make America safe again.”

MASK-FREE ICE AGENTS BEGIN PATROLLING US AIRPORTS; TRUMP FLOATS NATIONAL GUARD

“Criminal illegal aliens should not be released from jails back onto our streets to terrorize more innocent Americans,” the spokesperson continued, adding that the agency is “calling on sanctuary politicians to stop this dangerous derangement and commit to honoring ICE arrest detainers.”

Most of the 10 safest cities on U.S. News & World Report’s list are located either in states or counties that have laws directing municipal authorities to cooperate or coordinate directly with federal immigration enforcement. That cooperation often occurs through 287(g) agreements, which allow local law enforcement agencies to work directly with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). The cities also share other traits, such as high median incomes and a lack of mixed-use zoning or transient rental housing, underscoring the ongoing debate over whether immigration enforcement cooperation plays a meaningful role in public safety.

According to the DHS, there are over 33,000 criminal illegal aliens in California’s custody.

The spokesperson cited several illegal immigrants with criminal records arrested by ICE in the last year who were released in California despite ICE detainers, including child predators and gang members.

One of these individuals, Hector Grijalba-Sernas, from Mexico, was previously arrested for lewd or lascivious acts with a child under 14 years old. DHS said that despite ICE lodging a detainer against Grijalba-Sernas, he was released last year. He is currently in federal custody.

Another, Xujin An, from China, who was arrested for sexual penetration with force and sexual battery in Westminster, California, was arrested by ICE after its detainer was not honored, according to DHS. An is currently in ICE custody pending judicial proceedings.

A third, Angel Navarro Camarillo, who DHS said is a member of the La Familia street gang, was arrested by ICE following an arrest by local authorities for a sex offender violation. Likewise, the detainer against Navarro Camarillo was not honored, according to DHS. He has since been removed from the United States.

Carmelo Corado Hurtado, from Guatemala, was arrested by ICE following an unheeded detainer request and his conviction of first-degree murder, driving under the influence and second-degree robbery. ICE removed Corado Hurtado from the U.S. last year.

In Illinois, DHS said that ICE arrested illegal immigrant Jose Manuel Fuentes-Vargas, from Mexico, after its detainer against him was not honored and following his conviction of sexual assault of a victim less than 13 years of age. Fuentes-Vargas is currently in ICE custody.

Another, Leonardo Ignot-Osto, a Mexican national who illegally entered the U.S. at least four times and was convicted of child abduction of a victim less than 17 years old, was arrested by ICE last year after its detainer was not honored. He was removed from the U.S.

A third, Jaime Mandujano-Nunez, from Mexico, was arrested by ICE late last year after he was released by authorities on an unknown date following his conviction of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child. He has also since been removed from the U.S.

HOMAN FIRES BACK AT CNN HOST OVER ‘HOW WELL-THOUGHT-OUT’ ICE AIRPORT DEPLOYMENT PLAN IS

This comes amid mass outrage over the killing of Loyola University Chicago student Sheridan Gorman, allegedly by an illegal immigrant, Venezuelan national Jose Medina-Medina.

According to DHS, Medina-Medina, 25, entered the U.S. during the Biden administration and had been previously arrested for shoplifting in Chicago, marking a prior criminal incident before the alleged murder.

On Sunday, the Chicago Police Department formally charged Medina-Medina with murder in the shooting of Gorman. In a statement, the department said Medina-Medina was currently facing six felony charges, including a count of first-degree murder.

A spokesperson for Pritzker’s office told Fox News Digital, “Our thoughts are with the family, friends, and Loyola University community grieving the senseless murder of Sheridan Gorman.”

Pritzker’s spokesperson said that “violent crime has no place in our streets, and we expect the alleged perpetrator to be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law.”

They added that the Trump administration “needs to stop politicizing heinous tragedies and instead focus on real solutions, like reinstating federal funds to prevent violence that support our public safety efforts.”

Fox News Digital also reached out to the offices of Newsom and Healey.
